Using Emojis in Your Comms Content: Guidance and Benefits

21 August, 2025

In today’s fast-paced digital world, grabbing attention and keeping communication clear can be a challenge. Especially on mobile devices where countless apps compete for focus. One simple but effective tool to make our messages stand out is the use of emojis!

How to Add Emojis to Text and Titles in Your App

In the Thrive CMS, simply click on your content title box or in a text box on a page, and use the following keyboard shortcut to bring up an emoji-picker:

Then simply search for and click on the emoji you would like to use, and it will be inserted into your text! We've added some guidance and examples of best-practice below on the benefits of using emojis with comms content in your Thrive employee app!

Emojis

The Benefits of Using Emojis in Internal Communication ☝️

1. Emojis Grab Attention ‼️
When employees receive push notifications, they often skim quickly. Adding a relevant emoji makes the message visually pop, helping it stand out in a crowded notification bar. For example, a 🔔 before an urgent reminder or a 🎉 before an announcement signals importance instantly.

2. They Add Clarity and Tone 👌
Words alone can sometimes feel flat or even be misinterpreted. Emojis add tone, helping employees quickly understand the mood of a message. A 👍 reassures, a 😊 softens feedback, and a 🚀 can energize a project update.

3. They Make Content More Memorable ❤️
Research shows that visuals stick in our minds more than plain text. Adding emojis to short updates or instructions can make messages easier to remember and more likely to be acted on.

4. They Build Connection 🏠
Internal communication isn’t just about information—it’s about culture. Thoughtful emoji use can make messages feel warmer, more human, and more engaging, creating a sense of connection within the team.

5. They Save Time ⏰
On mobile, brevity matters. Emojis can replace extra words and still get the point across. For example, instead of writing “This is urgent, please act now,” a simple ⚡️ or ⏰ can communicate urgency immediately.

Best Practices

  • Use emojis sparingly and intentionally—too many can clutter the message.
  • Match emojis to the context (celebrations, reminders, alerts).
  • Stay consistent so employees recognize certain emojis as signals (e.g., ✅ for tasks, 📢 for announcements).

📲 Emoji Quick Reference Guide

Think of these as “visual signposts” to help you know the tone and priority at a glance.

Announcements & Updates
📢 = Important announcement
📰 = News or general update
📅 = Event / meeting reminder

Tasks & Action Items
✅ = Task completed
📝 = Action required / task to do
⏰ = Deadline / time-sensitive

Celebrations & Encouragement
🎉 = Achievement / good news
👏 = Well done / recognition
💡 = Great idea or innovation

Urgent or Critical
⚡️ = Urgent / needs immediate attention
❗ = High priority
🚨 = Critical alert

Culture & Connection
😊 = Friendly check-in / encouragement
🤝 = Collaboration / teamwork
🌱 = Growth / learning opportunity

🔑 Tip: Use no more than 1–2 emojis per message so they add clarity, not clutter.

Conclusion
Emojis aren’t just fun—they’re a practical tool to make internal communication more engaging, clear, and effective. When used wisely, they help our messages cut through the noise of other apps and connect with employees in a way that feels natural on mobile.
