September’s Engagement Toolkit: Creative Ideas to Energise Employees
If you’re searching for fresh ways to spark employee engagement, you’ve come to the right place. Each month we round up practical, creative content ideas designed to keep your employee app buzzing with activity. September’s selections are all about adding energy, connection, and a little inspiration to your workplace.

6th September: National Food Bank Day
National Food Bank Day is the perfect opportunity to rally your team around a meaningful cause. Use your employee app to organise a volunteering initiative in support of a local food bank, making it simple for employees to get involved. Create a dedicated page where people can quickly sign up, and highlight the impact their contributions will have on the community. Like the example below, it's easy to set up an acknowledgement on a page where employees can sign-up to volunteer! A small step in your app can lead to big change outside of it!

10th September: World Suicide Prevention Day
World Suicide Prevention Day is an important reminder of how vital it is to look after mental health in the workplace. Use this moment to share resources within your employee app that connect people to immediate, confidential support — such as Samaritans, Mind, or Shout Crisis Support. Even more powerful is keeping these details visible all year round, so employees always know where to turn in a time of need. A simple step like this shows your team that their wellbeing is valued and that they’re never alone.

13th September: Positive Thinking Day
Positive Thinking Day is the perfect excuse to spread a little joy in the workplace. One fun way to celebrate is by creating a collaborative feel-good playlist with your employees. Invite everyone to share their go-to mood-boosting songs in the comments of your employee app, then pull the suggestions together into a playlist the whole team can enjoy. If you’re able to play music in the office or depot, even better — but even if not, the activity itself is a great way to spark conversation, lift spirits, and bring people together.

20th September: World Clean-Up Day
World Clean-Up Day is a brilliant chance to bring your people together for a shared purpose. Use your employee app to organise a local clean-up initiative — whether it’s a nearby park, beach, or community space. Set up an event page where employees can sign up, promote it through your News feed, and encourage people to share photos of their efforts. You can invite employees either by using the Thrive Planner feature, or by creating a Page and setting an Event Acknowledgement on it. Even small actions, when combined, can have a big impact on our environment — and this is a fantastic way to build teamwork while giving back to the community.

21st September: World Gratitude Day
World Gratitude Day is a wonderful opportunity to shine a light on the positives in life and in the workplace. Use your employee app to create a Gratitude Wall where colleagues can share what they’re thankful for — big or small. This simple activity can spark meaningful conversations, build a sense of connection, and create a feel-good atmosphere across your organisation. Encouraging employees to pause and express gratitude not only lifts spirits on the day itself, but helps foster a more positive culture year-round.

29th September: World Heart Day
World Heart Day is all about raising awareness of heart health and encouraging healthier lifestyle choices. It’s a great chance to use your employee app to inspire small changes that can make a big difference. Why not create a Heart-Healthy Challenge — inviting employees to share their favourite healthy meals, daily step counts, or tips for staying active? You could also share resources on heart health and wellbeing, or even organise a group walk, run, or fitness activity. By taking part together, you’ll encourage healthier habits while strengthening team spirit.

27th September: World Tourism Day
World Tourism Day is the perfect excuse to celebrate culture, travel, and discovery — no suitcase required! Use your employee app to invite colleagues to share their favourite travel photos, bucket-list destinations, or hidden gems from their hometowns. You could even create a virtual travel wall where employees post pictures and stories that inspire others to explore new places. It’s a fun way to spark conversation, learn about different cultures, and bring a sense of adventure into the workplace.

We hope these ideas spark some inspiration to add some Summer fun to your Thrive employee app.
